Condolences

Condolence From: Maxine & Mary Soppe
Condolence: Dear Dennis, Duane, Deanna and Dwight ~
We're sending you our thoughts from Carpenter on this blustery day.
We've been thinking about you each as we practice sending off our elders. Mom considers your family some of her family's oldest friends.
Your Dad was a teriffic historian. He relayed stories about his childhood as a farmer's son. He was nearly the same age as Mom's oldest brother, Don-also known to us as Uncle "Shorty" (the tallest of the Gordon family). It was realized that Uncle and your Dad had spent a good bit of boyhood in the same circles on this prairie, Sunday dinners at each other's homes, and no doubt on harvest crews for their fathers and neighbors. Both Jack Gordon and Charlie Morse owned thrashing machines and were homesteaders.
Of course you knew Mom's other brother, Gene Gordon with Johnny and Jeannine, and his wife Lula with Linda and Calvin Oliverius.
My Uncle Don lived in Illinois for his post-Air Force, adult life. During summers he brought his 5 kids to visit family in Hereford, Greeley, Cheyenne & here. Uncle Shorty visited and stayed after my Dad, Rodney, died a year ago in Sept., and then again as his wife was buried in Carpenter this past year. We had been able to connect the two Dons on the phone and during these visits.
My Uncle just passed away a week before your Dad. Cousins and family gathered here last week.
We've been able to share the stories your Dad passed over about my Grandpa (John/"Jack") Gordon. My Grandma, Ethel Gordon, was a matriarch married to a much older man. There wasn't much personal information passed forward about my Grand Dad. Therefore, it was all the more precious to hear from your Dad about Jack's mechanical ingenuity, his whistling nature, his generosity and community mindedness, his participation at the literarys, and how he loved and made music. (We knew the part about not being much of a farmer or businessman...). He would have been a great neighbor to have. Your Dad put that straight. We are very thankful for that bit of heritage to hang onto.
Mom, Maxine, was some 7 years younger. She remembers your Grandmother Nora being a diabetic and weighing out all of her food. That was novel, but still one of the best modalities in what an individual can do for their part in combating unfortunate genetics and our contemporary, less-than-farmer health style.
I can still see and hear your Mom, June. She was so petite and proper but had a twinkly eye. Your parents made great music together. They must have tolerated a lot of noise in your household as you all became eloquent in creating music as well. You got to Burns HS and community before we did. I visited with your Dad after the HS reunion 2 yr ago. Your parents were such great assets to our local foundations.
We all come from hearty stock !! There seems to be more chaos up in front of us than in the past. But it was similarly, a lot of unknowns. I hope you can fold a lot of stories and songs into the batter as we try to lighten up the future for our descendants. We are really glad to have had your Dad around for so long--he really was a remarkable driver !! Whew!
Our thoughts go out to each of you until we can swap yarns in crossing sometime soon!

Condolence: So sorry to hear about your dad. Don was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. We know the trials you guys are all going thru now. Just know that we love you guys and you are in our thoughts and prayers. Don is with you Mom/Grandmother now and there is no more suffering for him. All the great farmers are together as well.

Condolence: To the Family & Friends of Charles Morse:

When our loved ones fall asleep in death it can be very devasting. When we think about how certain species of trees can live over 100 + years. We may wonder why we as humans only have only an expectant life span of 70 or perhaps 80 years. Romans 5:12 explains why this is so. Isaiah 25:8 tells us that his his due time, Almighty God will swallow up death forever. He will restore life to many who have fallen asleep in death.
