Obituary for Jack Fowler Bowen Dimick

Print
Jack Fowler Bowen Dimick passed away peacefully at home on November 25, having lived a long and meaningful life. Jack was born in Mobridge, South Dakota on May 3, 1936. He married Donna West on December 21, 1958. Jack and Donna moved to Cheyenne in 1967, where Jack taught Science at Carey Jr. High and they raised five children. He is survived by his wife, Donna; children Thomas Dimick (Debbie), Cristine Grant (Logan), Jennifer Kelley (Alfred Melazzi), Rebecca Grant (Darrell); Holly McFaul (Jared); sisters Marion Schmaltz and Joan Dimick; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby Dimick; brother, George Dimick Jr.; one granddaughter and two great grandchildren.

Jack was a deep thinker, balanced, wise, courageous, and loving. He took great joy in his marriage of nearly 60 years and in the resulting abundance of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that filled his life and home. Jack had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed teaching his children and students to see the natural world from a scientific perspective. He had the heart of a poet and wrote beautifully thoughtful expressions about life’s meaning and God. His family will remember him as an involved parent and grampa that loved to teach practical lessons based on everyday events. It’s no surprise that he has left a legacy of love, faith, and joy.

Jack once wrote that “there is something honorable and awesome in being a grey headed one, having spent a lifetime of integrity to principle and service to God”. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1967 and fulfilled his ministry faithfully. Even in his last few weeks, when his body was failing him and he was often unresponsive, he would muster an “amen” after a prayer or get a twinkle in his eye when listening to Bible readings. Jack took comfort in the words found at Job 14:14, 15, “If a man dies, can he live again? I will wait all the days of my compulsory service until my relief comes. You will call, and I will answer you. You will long for the work of your hands.” Everyone that loved Jack can now look forward to the time when “the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing” (1 Cor. 15:26), and Jack will receive the promised resurrection.

There will be a funeral honoring Jack’s memory on Thursday, November 29 at 3pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (3422 N. College Drive) in Cheyenne followed immediately by a reception at the Center for Conferences & Institutes (CCI) building at Laramie County Community College.
