Obituary for Arlene Johnson

Arlene Johnson
Arlene Elsie Johnson of Cheyenne, Wyoming passed away at 85 years of age at the Life Care Center of Kona, in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on August 18, 2016.

Arlene was born in North Platte, Nebraska on January 28, 1931 to Bill and Della Evers. She graduated from North Platte High School, where she was involved in a variety of activities such as dance, roller skating, and Girl Scouts of America. She started as a Brownie and continued to the level of Cadette.

She continued with Scouting as an adult by leading Brownie, Junior and Cadette Clubs as her children participated in the organization.

In High School she was President of the Girls Athletic Association and coordinated all their activities including sports competitions, banquets, and award presentations. She helped her father by working with him at “Evers Hardware Company” when they moved from North Platte to Cheyenne.

As an adult she continued her volunteer work with the New Comers Clubs in Cody and Casper, president of the PTA at Paradise Valley Elementary School in Casper. After moving to Cranford New Jersey she got involved with the Garden Club, Bicentennial Committee and the Women’s Club. In Cheyenne she helped with Meals on Wheels and the State Museum and Frontier Days.

Arlene was a devoted wife to Frank L. Johnson, and an amazing loving mother to her three children. She met Frank, at Francis E. Warren Air Force Base while he was a Non-Commissioned Officer in the Air Force and she was a stenographer and secretary, after attending business school.

She also worked for many years as a property manager and bookkeeper in Cheyenne. Arlene enjoyed playing bridge, camping, and touring the country with her husband in their RV.

Arlene is survived by her children, Julia Johnson, Janice Johnson, and Jeffrey Johnson, and was predeceased by her husband Frank, her sister Delores Yost, and brother-in-law Will Yost of Cheyenne. She has 7 grand children she adored: Brandon and Bryant Barnard of Phoenix AZ, Alyssa Monette, Stephanie and Garrick Johnson of Denver, CO and BriAnna and Caitlynne Johnson of Kona, Hawaii.

Arlene was a kind and amazingly strong woman. She will be missed dearly.

A viewing will be held at Schrader, Aragon & Jacoby Funeral Home at 10:00 AM, this Saturday, August 27, 2016, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 AM at Beth El Cemetery.
