Obituary for Anna "Angie" J. Morrison

Anna "Angie" J. Morrison
Anna Jennette “Angie” Morrison, 94, passed away on January 18, 2017, at the Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Angie was born on December 3, 1922, in Cambria, Wyoming, to John Christian and Mary Alma Christensen. She grew up on a ranch in Wyoming near the Black Hills.

Her education began in a one-room country school near Newcastle and continued at Newcastle High School where she graduated valedictorian in 1939. Angie was only 16 years old when she went to the University of Wyoming on a full tuition scholarship. At that time room and board cost $33 per month and her part time job paid $50 per month. Angie was homecoming queen in 1941. Her ride in the homecoming parade was accompanied by the Governor of Wyoming – her uncle Nels Smith. Angie was a 1944 graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences where she majored in commerce.

Upon graduation, Angie moved to Cheyenne where she worked for Jefferson Standard Life Insurance in the Boyd Building. She lived at the YWCA in the Nagle Warren Mansion on 17th Street. In 1947, she married William Wayne Morrison, Jr. at the Methodist Church on 18th Street where she has been a member for 69 years.

Angie served as Assistant to the Executive Secretary for the Wyoming High School Activities Association. She was the first employee at Laramie County Community College serving as the Administrative Assistant to the President.

She belonged to Women’s Civic League of Cheyenne, XJWC, P.E.O., Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Laramie County Retired Teachers, and United Methodist Women. She was a 50 year member of Oakleaf #6 Order of Eastern Star. Angie also served as Republican precinct committee woman.

Angie became a widow in 1988 and continued to live in her home on 7th Avenue until she moved to Pointe Frontier in 2008. She was living there until she went to the Davis Hospice Center.

The descriptions ‘sweet’ and ‘class’ never met a truer match than with Angie. The sweetness was in her soft voice, the wink of her eye, and the ever present smile that graced her beautiful face. Class was found in her thoughtful, sincere, and gracious approach to everyone she met and how she carried herself with quiet dignity. Not a day went by, even to the very last, where she didn’t put the needs and cares of others before her own. The cherry on top was her amazingly quick wit. Her clever one-liners never failed to bring laughter and joy to those who loved her.

Descendants include three children, Diane Gallagher (John) of Englewood, Colorado, Richard Morrison (Diane) of Cheyenne, and Robert Morrison (Maggie) of Laramie. Other descendants include eight grandchildren, David Gallagher, Scott Gallagher, Jennette Gallogray, Michele von Merveldt, Kristin Morrison, Nolan Morrison, Nathan Morrison, and Nicholas Morrison; and nine great-grandchildren, Lincoln Gallagher, Bilim Gallagher, William Gallagher, Caleb Gallogray, Enoch Gallogray, Abigail von Merveldt, Moses von Merveldt, Johnathan Morrison, and Clara Morrison. She is survived by a sister, Ruth C. D'Amico of Saratoga, Wyoming, and 13 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Earl Christensen, sister, Elsie Marie Christensen; and two nieces.

A memory service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017, at First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Beth El Cemetery.

Donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church or Davis Hospice Center.
