David P. Stockdale, 49, of Conway, South Carolina, formerly of Cheyenne, was killed in an auto accident in Myrtle Beach, SC, May 16, 2018.
He was born April 7, 1969 in Vermillion, South Dakota, the son of the late Richard G. Stockdale and Rayette Laird- Reece.
David, his older Brother, Gary, and parents moved to Cheyenne in July 1971. David loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing, swimming, riding horses and motorcycle racing with his Dad and Brother. He and Gary were in Cub Scouts and his mom was their den mother. He loved to go camping with his Dad and Brother. He kept busy with his newspaper route in Indian Hills. The job allowed him to buy his own motorcycles for racing and his first car.
David married Karen McKnight and they had two boys, Garett and Stephen, both from Cheyenne.
David had a drywall company for 18 years in Cheyenne and he loved teaching his boys the trade. They also enjoyed hunting and camping together. He decided to move to South Carolina to stay warm and be near the ocean that he loved.
David was preceded in death by both sides of his Grandparents; his Father, Richard G. Stockdale; and two Aunts. He is survived by his Mother, Rayette (Russ) Laird-Reece; Sons, Garett Stockdale and Stephen Stockdale; Brother, Gary (Holly) Stockdale and her daughter, Kaelyn; Nephew, Aedan Stockdale all of Colorado; four Uncles, Larry and John Stockdale of Cheyenne, Ray (Catherine) Stockdale and David (Lynnette) Stockdale, both of Iowa; Great-Aunt, Dora (Leon) Sheffler from Illinois; Great-Uncle Merle (Valda) Rosenthal of Arizona and Uncle Jim (Sue) Phillips in Iowa.
A memory service will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lakeview Chapel at Schrader, Aragon and Jacoby Funeral Home. A private interment will be held at a later date at Mountain View Memorial Park.
