Betty was a very sweet, humble and good-hearted person who befriended my mother Charlotte when Mom first began attending Seventh Day Adventist Church many years ago. They became fast friends and would speak with one another on the telephone quite often. When Mom passed in 2013, Betty was among the very first people to call and offer her condolences to both my brother Mike and I. However, she was unable to attend the funeral due to health concerns.
During the winter of 2015-2016, Mike and I finally got an opportunity to meet Betty in-person for the very first time when we assisted with getting her beloved dogs (Charlie and Johnny) professionally groomed. We were more than happy to do so. We spoke with her at her home well into the evening hours and came away from the day understanding why Mom always spoke so highly of her. Betty impressed us both with how bright and good-natured she truly was.
Mom always kept a personal calendar as a reminder of all the special events that really mattered to her during the course of each year. Betty's birthday (June 30th) was one such date. Mike and I attempted to call her today to wish her a Happy 85th Birthday only to discover the unfortunate news of her passing a month prior. Sad news, indeed.
I have no doubt that she and Mom are both together, at this very moment, celebrating this special day in a much, much better place.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BETTY SPOMER! And, may your kind soul Rest In Peace.
